The 3 Benefits of Vitamin E for Overall Health

Present in serums, moisturizers, eye creams and most skincare products in your beauty kit, vitamin E is most known for its effects on the skin. But there’s more to the nutrient than a way to achieve healthy skin. Read on for a short feature on vitamin E and its key benefits for overall health.

All About Vitamin E

The name may sound singular, but vitamin E is actually a family of oil-soluble antioxidants. There are about eight different types or forms of vitamin E, including tocopheryl acetate and tocopherol which are most commonly used in skincare products.

This essential nutrient occurs naturally in many foods. Good dietary sources include nuts, such as almonds, peanuts and hazelnuts, and vegetable oils, such as sunflower, wheat germ, safflower, corn and soybean oils. It’s also available as a dietary supplement.

The Benefits of Vitamin E

The wonders of vitamin E extends from the skin to the whole body, thanks to these prime benefits.

Vitamin E is an antioxidant

Vitamin E is a powerhouse antioxidant that fights off health-damaging free radicals, on top of these other effects on the body:

  • supports the body’s immune system in fighting off infection
  • ensures multiple body processes run smoothly, with its role in producing hormone-like substances called prostaglandins

Vitamin E promotes cell renewal and longer cell life

Connected to its function as an antioxidant, vitamin E helps keep cells healthy and intact. It promotes cell and tissue renewal, keeping vital organs such as the heart, lungs and liver functioning well. For the skin, not only does the cell-renewing benefit of vitamin E keep it looking young and supple, it also ensures that its protective barrier is up and repairs quickly from any damages.

Vitamin E can help prevent diseases

Vitamin E supports the body’s immune system in its function of protecting against infections. It has been studied to stimulate the body’s defenses against diseases.

Regular intake of vitamin E through a variety of foods or supplements not only keeps the skin nourished, but also keeps the body in tip-top condition.

    1. Hi, Luzelle! For breastfeeding mommies, it’s best to consult your obstetrician-gynecologist first before taking any vitamin, including Myra E capsule. Your doctor is in the best position to advise what is most suitable based on your age, health status, and nutritional needs. 🙂
