According to https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2004/11/041116233312.htm
Daily vitamin E doses of 400 international units (IU) or more can increase the risk of death and should be avoided, researchers reported at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions 2004. NEW ORLEANS, Nov.Nov 18, 2004
Is that true?
Dear Steph,
Thank you for messaging us about this. We understand your concern regarding the negative effects of Vitamin E 400IU mentioned in the article you cited. However, we would like to point out that since the release of that article in 2004 and similar ones in the early 2000s, there have also been studies and published articles that have disproven it and instead recommends further evaluation of Vitamin E.
There are limitations identified in the 2004 study regarding potential adverse effects of 400IU Vitamin E. Some of the findings have (1) very small studies, (2) others trials combined Vitamin E with high doses of Vt. A (which itself had been related to excess mortality), and (3) other trials included people who are typically middle-aged or older and had chronic diseases or related risk factors.
Vitamin E supplements that were given to healthy individuals found no convincing evidence that the supplements increased mortality (death). It is important to talk with your doctor about any other supplements or medications you’re taking.
Hope this is clear! Thank you.
